I was diggin’ through the bins today and came across NY Thrash CD – filled with bands from a scene that happened about 10 years before my New York time. When I moved there- bands like Agnostic Front, Sick of it All, and Leeway were wrapping things up, playin’ Sunday Punk Rock Matinees. There was something vital, true, and just plain cool about NY Hardcore – that I was not familiar with being a California man. Sure there was Los Angeles (Germs, Black Flag) and San Francisco (Flipper, Dead Kennedy’s) scenes – but something about pre-gentrified L.E.S that was alive, dangerous and just plain honest. HappyParts is a NYC radical honesty groupie- from the music, the people, the music, Abstract Expression, Pop, #4 express to the stadium, N&R, and the boroughs. New York is aggressively assertive. I dig that.
