“Queen of the Supermarket” – Bruce Springstein

You can find this beauty on his new record. Amazin’ – and he explains ‘the inspiration’  here – Serious.  Dig the lyrics. I am curious what his inner circle was thinking during playback – “Yeah Bruce – that’s dynamite!” To get tangential- it kinda reminds me of The Memphis Mafia – who never mustered up the courage to tell Elvis that doing dope 24-7 might be a problem.   Let’s face it – Bruce has always been a champion for the workin’ people.  Next record he might just get all verklempt about women in scrubs.   For the record – I give Bruce a pass. No sense in messing with the Boss.  His sales numbers could fund a small nation.  And the Superbowl set: – He just got plain cooky.  Asbury Vegas style.  It was like a small time bar with 150 million regulars.  Warning: Bruce’s crotch is coming right atchya!

Back to this amazin’  new tune- dig this lyric clip:

There’s a wonderful world where all you desire
And everything you’ve longed for is at your fingertips
Where the bittersweet taste of life is at your lips
Where aisles and aisles of dreams await you
And the cool promise of ecstasy fills the air
At the end of each working day she’s waiting there

I’m in love with the Queen of the Supermarket
As the evening sky turns blue
A dream awaits in aisle number two

With my shopping cart I move through the heart
Of a sea of fools so blissfully unaware
That they’re in the presence of something wonderful and rare
The way she moves behind the counter
Beneath her white apron her secret remains hers
As she bags the groceries her eyes so bored
And sure she’s unobserved…..

Thank You to Stereogum for sharing this beauty with me.  Dig the video they found – a montage of all the action that Bruce has become smitten by. And thank  IGIAF + YANP for the crotch shot.

  1. I absolutely love this song. It affirms that everyone has beauty, even in the most mundane arenas. It also points out that we are all masters of our own domain. Even Queens can be housewives and housewives queens. Bruce once again speaks for the little guy or gal. The plain Jane has her day! Thanks Bruce for seeing our beauty.

Also a word on supermarkets. They are the epitome of abundance. We need more of an abundant mentality in this country. The Bush admin represented scarcity. Obama abundance and limitless possibilities. I’m in love with the king of abundance.
