Classic Track of Day – T-Rex

1973 - Edsel

Only Marc Bolan could get away with wearing a feather boa on his album cover. Panned by many critics – this 1973 record had a bonus #3 UK pop track added on re-press: 20th Century Boy. Since then it continues to pop up in films and adverts. HappyParts was on the treadmill to hell today, and curioulsy enjoyed glam’s o.g  lay down his timeless riff on the gym P.A. system.  (seriously) HappyParts would bet his lunch on this riff any day. Have at it.

HappyParts was loaded on natural opiates from a treadmill issue after 10pm, and could not sleep last night. Carson Daly time. Caught some neo-soft-rock queen – at first I thought it was Cat Power – but then after searchin’ for the video tonight – I find out it’s Diane Birch (yes that video is from another late show) She has pipes. Carly and Carol would be proud. (Yes, my mind wanders.) Get to the point? Dig Stories’ ‘Brother Louie.’ Ian Lloyd’s vocal performance, and the warm analog recording/mix just slay me. There’s a confusing back-story to the creative work flow here: All Music Guide. I may have gotten the cover wrong. But the one above is sweet. But I digress.

Classic Track of Day – Brian Eno

1973 Island IPS-9268

1973 Island IPS-9268

Here’s another beauty from Brian Eno’s first solo album.   Dig the feel and the sound and the consider the year of the release. Both simple and complex, a testament to the years ahead where, he would record and produce several platinum groups – U2,  ColdPlay,  Talking Heads, and  subterranean cousins:  Devo.  ‘Baby’s On Fire’  lyrics are quite messed up, just as well.  HappyParts take:  a dark comedic slant of paparazzi, and those who ‘stop traffic” or cash in, minding other people’s business.  (Rubbernecks to Hills to TMZ)  “Baby’s on fire! and all the instruments agree that  her temperature’s rising,  but any idiot would know that. ”
